Paying It Forward

In the mid-1930's, things began to change for the better in New Zealand. More people were able to find work and receive a steady paycheck. They were still careful, however, with their money and rarely, if ever, brought treats or gifts for one another. For this task we have to imagine that we are able to travel back in time to visit a family in the 1930's and give them gifts. I personally would take the Harry Potter books back because I believe that reading is important and these books are interesting to almost everyone. I would also like to take back some Cadbury chocolates like Boost and Crunchie bars.

  1. Hey Tia,

This is Jade C from the Summer Learning Journey team of 2018. I will be reading your blog over this summer holidays.

You have written a very good introduction to start off your paragraph. I really like how you gave some information about the post-war depression. The thought of taking a book is super. I think both kids and adults would enjoy the Harry Potter book as much as we do today. Reading is important because you learn from reading and also it can be fun!

Furthermore, I love chocolates! If I was in the mid 1930s and someone brought me a bar of Cadbury chocolate, I would thank that person from the bottom of my heart. People suffering from the great depression would have been starving. I think it's a great idea to take some treats for them to boost their energy level up.

What other things could you bring? I would also bring some thick warm socks that we wear in winter, so they could keep their feet warm in the winter.

I hope to hear back from you and have a great day!

    Jade C.

  2. Kia Ora Tia,

It's Georgia here. I am really enjoying having a look through your blog at all of the activities you've completed. I am very impressed with the effort you have put into your writing, especially the introduction of this activity where you included a brief overview of what it was like for people in the 1930's.

I love your idea of taking Harry Potter books back to them! I am currently re-reading this series in my spare time and completely agree that they are interesting to almost everyone. What a great choice Tia. Which of the Harry Potter books is your favourite? Do you prefer the books to the movies? I know I do, the books go into such detail and I love letting my mind paint the picture instead of the television screen.

Ka pai, keep up the awesome work.

    Nga mihi
    Georgia
