The Treaty of Waitangi

On 6 February 1840, a very special document was signed by the Maori chiefs and the British settlers in New Zealand. It was called the Treaty of Waitangi. For this task we have to find three fun things you can do in Waitangi as a visitor. One thing you might enjoy visiting the treaty ground and watching a live Kapa Haka. Maybe even take a tour along the Waitangi river. When I am older I would like to visit the treaty grounds.

  3. Hi there Tia,

Awesome stuff! I've never been to Waitangi before but I would love to go and visit the grounds of the Waitangi Marae. My Maori ancestors originated from Waitangi and my tribe, Ngapuhi is from there! Have you ever been inside a Marae before? When I was in school I visited a few Maraes around Auckland on field trips.

The Waitangi river would be cool to go to as well, I like bush walks and I reckon being along side the river would be so much fun! Have you ever been to Waitangi before?

I'm looking forward to reading blog posts from you.

    Cheers,
    Jade F :)
