Cubism Art
Last week we looked at Cubism art, as developed by Pablo Picasso. Cubism is a art form where you use lots of different shapes and few colours. We made self portraits using Cubism and pastels. Here is mine. I learnt how to "drag", smudge the colours. I found the dragging very difficult.
Pasifika Art
We have been making Pasifika art flowers. First we draw a leaf and a design on the leaf then photocopy it. Next we dyed them. The maximum number of colours we used were three. Then you had to let them dry. Then cut them out. After that, we had to glue the leaves on a black piece of paper, making them curve,
Next, get a white A3 piece of paper and another black piece of paper, Cut lines in the white paper and cut out three long rectangles out of the black paper. Then weave them together. Next tape the black bit then cut any extra bits off.
Fold it to make a hollow cylinder with extra bits dangling from one end then sellotaping it along where it overlaps. Then curl the dangling bits with scissors. After that, sellotape it to the middle of the flower then it is done.

Book Trailers
Over the last week we have been learning about book trailers. Book trailers are like movie trailers but they advertise books. I worked with Lauren and together we made a book trailer about Secret Kingdom Mermaid Reef. Here is our book trailer.

Presentation (Persuasion)
|
The trailer flows very smoothly and captivates the attention of the audience. It compels the viewer to read the book.
|
The trailer flows smoothly and holds the attention of the audience. The viewer is left interested in the book.
|
The trailer flows reasonably but there are some transitions that need improvement in order for the viewer to want to read the book.
|
The scenes from the trailer are choppy and the transitions seem abrupt. The viewer may be left confused and not inclined to read the book.
|
Content
(Storyline/plot)
|
Key scenes of themes from the book have been creatively presented. These make the content of the book clear to the viewer.
|
There is one key scene of theme of the book represented in the trailer. This makes the viewer generally aware of the content of the book
|
An attempt has been made to represent a scene or theme in the trailer, however is not clear to the viewer.
|
There is no scene in the trailer that suggests the student has read the book. The viewer has no idea of what the book is about.

2015 Calendar Art
Every year we do Calendar art for the parents to buy. They can also buy diaries and cards. This year I did this. We could choose to do two shapes there where hearts, flip flops, diamonds and your hands to do. I decided on and did my hands. We had to do patterns, but not too much. Here is mine.

Limerick Poem
We have looked at limerick poems. Limerick poems are silly five lines of fun but they are hard to write. How to write, the first, second and fifth lines rhyme with each other and have 8 or 9 syllables. The third and fourth rhyme and have 5 or 6 syllables.
Here is mine I wrote.

There once was an old man from the west.
He always ran away from the pest.
He had a pink shirt.
He had a ballet skirt.
The next day he went to the fest.

Digi Awards
This year the whole syndicate had to enter the Digi Awards this year the theme was everyday heroes. There were different categories we could do. In the categories you had to show everyday heroes. I chose Digital Art which is one photo or a photo story. I learnt different camera angels like sit down and worms eye view. Also we had to get a lot of feedback. Then to send it we had to write about it and it had to have 100 words.
This term we learnt about lots of different types of heroes like community heroes and ourselves as heroes. We learnt about the differences between personal heroes and a superhero.

We all picked a category I chose digital art because I just love taking photos. First we learnt different camera angles like twist, sit down and worms eye view (but the twist sometimes makes me dizzy). Then I got feedback to improve the photo. I chose my hero to be Lauren because she inspires and encourages me to do more and have courage. The camera angle I used is sit down.

New Zealand Flag Debate
Last term we learnt about the New Zealand Flag Debate. We also decided if we should or shouldn't change the flag.
We looked at our flag we have at the moment and came up with our own flag for New Zealand.
We made prototypes and got feedback. Here is the feedback I got.
Prototype feedback flag one from Lauren "too many pictures, make sure you can explain everything and make the pictures bigger."
Prototype feedback flag two from Mum "too busy, too many pictures and a bit too much."
Prototype feedback flag three from Rykin "make the kiwi bigger."
Finale flag feedback from Brayden "Liked how I tried to add the Maori culture."
