My Epic Gift

Would you like the a fantastic gift to give someone? Do you want to be the envy of your friends? Do you need to get out of annoying situations? Then I offer you my 100% raw, natural stick and 100% more sticky that a normal friend. Did you know that they can help you,  help you win races and keep you company?

Did you know that sticks are good at helping you? Do you wake up most mornings and find that you just can’t get your hair the way you want? Well I have the solution for you. You can poke your stick through your hair or behind your ear to take others eyes to the stick instead of your hair. Also they can be lots of other different things. They can be a wand like Harry Potter’s, when you wave your wand you can go anywhere you want to be. If you have annoying siblings you can trick them into thinking that you have a piece of gold in the shape and colour of a stick but instead it’s your stick and that it will turn back into gold if they are quite. They are also stick-tastic pals.

Secondly they can help you win a race. Do you come second or third or fourth in every race you run in? Then bring your friendly stick! You can win by a bud! They are very fast and speedy. Discover the add speed of the stick with you. They also can help you win the race by encouraging you and sticking with you. You deserve a friend like that! Do you love friends like that? Your stick is that lovely friend.

Lastly your stick can keep you company. Did you know that if you have a pet dog or cat they will play together so you don’t have to worry that your little furry friends aren't missing out on fun? Your stick will also stick with you through thick and thin. They will stay where you put them so you don’t have to worry about them. Which is fanta-stick! They aren't pal-stick so you know they are really there for you. They are all original just like you! They are the ultimate friend. They are the one of a kind friend.

Therefore, I think you should get a stick because they can help you,  help you win races and keep you company. Run, don't walk to your nearest tree or bush to get your stick-tastic buddy, but remember don’t go picking them off trees or bushes because they are still growing with their brothers and sisters. Get one from the ground!

My Purrfect Cats for Miss McLeod

For the last two weeks we have been learning about persuasive pices of writing. We had to try to convince Miss McLeod to ether get a cat or a dog. I choose to persuade Miss McLeod to get a cat. This is my persuasive writing. I had to use persuasive words and phrases that were convincing. I learned that cat reduce chances of a heart attack by 30% (from a friend), and I enjoyed writing about cats.

Collaborative Success Criteria
  • The correct structure of a persuasive text including an introduction, with a hook and your opinion, 3 body paragraphs and a conclusion.
  • Persuasive vocabulary and phrases that convince people
  • The reasons why with supporting ideas

Monday 17th October
Purrfect Cats For Miss McLeod

Did you know a cat’s purr is purrfectly soothing? I believe that after a busy day at school, there’s nothing better than coming home to a soothing cat purr. That’s why I think Miss McLeod should get a cat. Also because they don’t need lots of attention, no matter how far the go they always come back and they love it when you pat them.

One reason cats are great pets, because they don’t need much attention. They don’t need to walk them like dogs so you don’t need to get collars and leads. Also they will clean themselves. You can leave them for a long time so they are great if you work long hours. The only thing they will need is food. Did you know that if you have an outside fish pond they will drink from it?

Another great reason Miss McLeod should get a cat is that no matter how far they go they will always came back home. Cats love their homes. They might be gone all night they will come back home in the morning. When they find a present they will come back put it outside the house. They know their way around and they seem to know what time of day it is because when you come home they will be there, not far away.

Lastly they love it when you pat them. If they love you enough they will headbutt you and your face. If they are let in, and you are still in bed they will come in purring loudly. They purr lots when you pat them. They also like it when you brush them.

Overall I think Miss McLeod should get a cat because they don’t need much attention, No matter how far they go they will always  come back home and they love it when you pat  them. Run, don’t walk, to the closest pet store now before your purrfect companion gone forever!

My Wings

Every year we do Calendar art for the parents to buy. They can also buy diaries and cards. This year I did this. We could choose what sort of art to do, I choose to do wings art. For the wings art I had to decide and make a template of the wings, then make dabs of paint on one half then folded it in half. Then our teacher took our  photos of us individually and print them. Lastly we cut out the wings from the template, our self out and glue it all together. It was hard doing the painting because I couldn't get it even. Here is my calendar art for this year.

Squirt

Today in maths we are learning to discover the relationships of capacities of a,b and c. We played a game called Squirt. You have to use the taps and plugs to work out how many times a fits into b, b into c and c into a.  There are three levels, each has a, b and c but the bottles can be different shapes.
Here is some screenshots of the game, and here is the link to the game.

Paddle Power

For Reading over the past two days we have been learning about questioning. Questioning is when we ask questioning about the text while we are reading Sometimes we can answer our questions if we read on. If we can't answer the questions we can try to use our prior knowledge to make a guess. If we can't use our prior knowledge we might need to do some research. I read the text Paddle Power. It was about Kayaks. While I was reading I was asking questions I wrote them on a post it note. These are some of my questions, what would you pack? What does sealing mean? What is a bilge pumps? What is a flare and what do they look like? Here are the rest of my questions.

Website Creator

From the beginning of the term we have been learning about be the change for Digi Awards. If you read my post I did last year you will know what I'm talking about if not here is what it is. This year the whole syndicate had to enter the Digi Awards. There were different categories we could do. In the categories you had to show be the change. Then we had to write about it, it had to have 100 words in the blurb.

This year I choose Website Creator because I have never done it before and I wanted a challenge. I did it with Kristie. Our teacher Miss McLeod taught us how to make the website and how to make a new page. I taught Kristie some new camera angles.

Imaginaion Poem

This week for reading we are learning about the Olympic games. Today we are learning about the sports that are in the Olympics. For this activity we had to imagine we worked for TVNZ and we were paid to travel to Rio de Janeiro to attend the Olympic Games. Here is my poem.

The fear ran through me like a lightning bolt.
My sweaty hands grasped the airline tickets
The enormity brought me to a halt
I felt the power of the Olympic spirit

My idols awaited me
I roamed around the stadiums with Glee
Reporting the high and lows made me feel mixed emotions
Bringing medals back home over the ocean

Taekwondo Photo

This week for reading we are learning about the Olympic games. Today we are learning about the sports that are in the Olympics. For this activity we had to take a photo of ourselves doing one of the sports. I choose taekwondo because I do something similar outside of school (I do karate) and I think if I had to compete in it I would go great. In the picture I am doing a high kick aiming for the head.

Water Polo

This week for reading we are learning about the Olympic games. Today we are learning about the sports that are in the Olympics. Water Polo is a water sport in the summer Olympics. The first time water polo was in the Olympics was in the Paris 1900 and the first time women were allowed to play was the Sydney 2000 games. The aim of the game is that there are two teams of seven players compete against each other. To win your team has to score a goal by throwing a ball into a goal. When you are throwing or catching the ball must be done with one hand. You can't sash water into someone face.

Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics Logo

For this activity I had to try and design a logo for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games. I used the site Design Mantic to find an image that represents the Olympics. Here is a link to the site.
Why I have chosen the torch is to represent the Olympic torch.

Famous Land Marks

For this activity we had to find some famous landmarks in New Zealand. Here are three landmarks (1) the Hobbit Movie Set is famous because there was a movie there it has cool old looking buildings there. The Hobbit Movie Set is in the North island. (2) Te Papa Museum in Wellington is one of the coolest places, it is the Museum of New Zealand. (3) Willowbank Wildlife Reserve in Christchurch is the best place to visit as a family with feed animals and (sometimes) get close with deer.

Here is a link to maps where the landmarks are.

Tom and Vinicius

This week we are learning about the Olympics. One of today's activity is about the Rio mascots their names are Tom and Vinicius. In this video they are looking for a place to sleep. Vinicius tries a hollow log but there are centipedes inside it. Tom finds a hole in a tree but there was an owl in there that scares him away. They disagree on where to set up. They finally agree on a spot and build a house each, but when they try to sleep they find they can't. Vinicius hangs upside down on a branch and Tom finds a lilypad to sleep on.

My Many Coloured Days Poem

On Thursday a few weeks ago Mr Maderin came in and taught us about thinglink. He showed us how to make a  rainbow and upload it to thinglink, then he showed us how to put tags on it. If you hover your mouse over the rainbow a sentence from my poem called 'My Many Coloured Days' will appear. The poem is about how colours are feelings. Here is my poem (on the rainbow).

Gobstopper Experiment Writing

On Wednesday last week we had to eat and describe eating gobstoppers. Here is mine.

As the bag of colorful sphere came around I felt more and more scared. Mostly because the bag was full of gobstoppers. I have never had a gobstopper in my life and my mum has never let me have one because she says that it will make my teeth rot and I don’t want that to happen. I picked one up it was the colour of a lemon. It smelt of smarties and chewing gum.  I looked at the penny sized ball in my hand. It felt as hard as a diamond and smooth like a page in a book. Then Miss Mcleod told us to put it in our mouths. I didn’t want to eat it but my friend Lauren was saying it was ok to put it in my mouth so I did it. My mouth exploded with a taste of fruity mentos and smarties. After what seemed like 4 hours I took my gobstopper out now it was as small as a pea and was a different colour.  I took one last look at it then dropped it into a bin. “Bye bye little gobstopper” I thought to myself.

James and The Giant Peach Character Description

This week we wrote a character description about James and his aunts, Aunt Spiker and Aunt Sponge. Here is my writing.

In the book James and The Giant Peach lies a spellbinding adventure that you will never forget.
(If you haven't read it or listened to it yet!).

James is a small, kind and caring boy because he was raised by kind parents for the first four years. Unfortunately the happiness did not last for poor James they passed away one day. He is lonely and sad because his aunts don’t let him see anyone or don’t let him leave the hill. James is very frightened of his aunts because they are mean to him.

Aunt Spiker and Aunt Sponge have very different appearances but they still have the same characteristics. Aunt Spiker is thin like the silk from a spider's web with thin lips but Aunt Sponge is as wide as outer space. The aunts are mean because they have beaten poor James up from the beginning. They are lazy and make James do all the work while they sit around all day. They are very beastly and horrid looking but they think they are beautiful. They are selfish and don’t care for anyone but themselves. The aunts never call James by his real name but call things like him you miserable creature.

Overall James and his aunts are very different in looks, attitudes and behavior. James is small and kind, his aunts are ugly and greedy.  The only things they have in common are, they live together and they are family.

Star Explosion Writing

For the last two weeks we have been writing about a star explosion and what happens. Here is my writing

When a star explodes it means it has died. The star takes four stages to explode completely. I find them very interesting.

First it starts to fizz around its lavery edges as it heats up.  It’s midde starts to turn a deep red colour. But it’s getting hotter as the explosion continues. I think  this is because the star cannot hold all the heat. This makes me wonder how long do stars live for in space?

Suddenly white and blue flames burst from the star. It sprouts from different places at different times. The fame is blue and white because that is the hottest part. I think this is because the core is pushing out too much heat. This makes me wonder why do star explosions start with mini explosions?

Next suddenly there is a bright white flash like a camera flash. It’s so bright it looks like it could blind you. All you can see is it ghostly faint outline. I think it is like that because, the white is the hottest part of a flame and it's getting hotter and hotter. This makes me wonder why does it flash so bright?

Lastly it turns blue and the star starts to grow every second. It grows so large you can barely see around it. It’s like a balloon being blown up. I think it is because it is exploding. This makes me wonder will it make a black hole or is this part a black hole

Here is the video we watched video.

Bio Poem

We have been learning about each other by doing all about me activities. Room 5's activity was bio poems. Bio poems are poems that tell people about you. First I planed about it I had to think very deeply about myself.

The first line is your name and the second line is three additives, third line is who enjoys then what you enjoy. The fourth is what you are able to do. The Fifth line is what you feel and when, the sixth line is what you wonder, the seventh line is what you fear. The eighth line is what you care about and the last line is what you dream about.

Tia
Kind, loyal, creative.
Who enjoys reading, cats and spending time with friends and family.
Who is able to knit.
Who feels happy when reading books.
Who wonders what walked the earth and swam in the ocean millions of years ago.
Who fears of the dark and spiders.
Who cares about animals, her friends and family and cat toffee.
Who dreams of exploring the world and finding out about the animals there in the countries.
